Happy Holiday Season!

It’s that time of the year again, where we think about the year that’s been and wonder where on earth all the time has gone! We’ve had a fantastic and incredibly busy year here at TNV and we want to take this opportunity to thank all of our fabulous members for your support and creative energy. So from all of the TNV staff and board, we’d like to wish you a very happy and safe holiday season. See you in 2013!!!

Australian Theatre Forum update: Marketing Summit is rumored to be joining us!! Alicia and Antonia visited Canberra last week to continue the planning for next year’s forum. While they were there, they had discussions about the Australia Council’s Marketing Summit which looks to be on at the same time. Stay tuned to the Australia Council’s website or follow us on Twitter [@TheatreNetworkV] to hear announcements in the next two weeks.

The TNV office will be closed from the 22nd of December and open again on Monday 21st of January.

NATIONAL STUFF

Griffin Theatre Company’s $10,000 Griffin Award for 2013. Applications close 1st January 2013. Griffin Theatre Company are looking for submissions of new Australian plays displaying an authentic, inventive and contemporary voice. The Griffin Award is an annual $10,000 prize offered for an outstanding new Australian play. In addition to the main award, all shortlisted playwrights receive $1,000 each.

 

Road Work 2014 [Performing Lines]. Applications close 25thJanuary 2013. Road Work are currently inviting EOIs from producers/artists for small to medium scale work for 2014 regional touring. Road Work is especially interested in productions that will engage and inspire regional audiences and are challenging and ambitious in terms of ideas or form.

Mobile States 2014 [Performing Lines]. Applications close 25th January 2013. Mobile States Expressions of Interest are now being accepted for artists across the performing arts who want to tour their work nationally in 2014. They have a particular interest in small scale or project-based companies who are concerned with experimentation, research and the investigation of ideas and form.

National Play Festival. PERTH, 21st to 24th February 2013.
Presenting four days of non-stop new plays, artist talks and special presentations, the National Play Festival 2013 brings the best in new Australian plays to the Perth International Arts Festival.

2013 National Dance Forum announced for 15th to 17th March 2013.
Ausdance and the Dance Board of the Australia Council for the Arts will present the second National Dance Forum in Melbourne in conjunction with Dance Massive, 2013. The forum will be a dynamic conversation for the whole dance sector;choreographers, dancers, independent artists, artistic directors, educators, dance producers.

 

Long Paddock to be held as part of the Performing Arts Touring Expo. Malthouse Theatre.
The national touring forum (where producers and presenters meet to discuss and plan national tours for the following year), will be held in Melbourne as part of the Performing Arts Touring Expo.

VICTORIAN STUFF

RAV launches an online discussion around the question “How can art transform your town? (Link removed)” The Premier recently announced that Regional Arts Victoria will present Small Town Transformations on behalf of the Victorian Government. This $2m project invites small towns of less than 1,500 people to think big on how an artistic project can have a transformative impact on their town. In the lead up to the opening of EOIs on the 14th January 2013, RAV have launched a website to stimulate a summer of discussion.

Richmond Theatrette’s new development program. Applications close 12th December 2012. The City of Yarra has recently refurbished, the Richmond Theatrette, a performance space above Richmond Library and is looking to support a series of developments [Jan-June] and presentations [Late June]. Five works will be chosen and each project will be offered 10 days of rehearsal space plus $1000 stipend.

Lucy Guerin Inc Studio Residency opportunity. Applications close 17th December 2012.
Each year Lucy Guerin Inc provides an opportunity for choreographers to use their Studio, free of charge, to work on a new contemporary dance project. No presentation outcome is required but artists are encouraged to have a showing of the work they develop and invite feedback from peers and audience.

Lawler Studio Residencies [2013 dates still available]. Applications close 19th December 2012.
MTC is offering independent companies and artists two residencies of two weeks within the Lawler Studio at Southbank Theatre. The aim of the residencies is to provide a space for artists to develop their work. There is no expectation of a public outcome.

VicHealth MOTION program Grants up to $70,000. Applications close 21st February 2013.
Focusing on creative community interventions which increase physical activity and social connection. Briefing session: 4pm Thursday 13 December 2012 at VicHealth, 15-31 Pelham St, Carlton.

Applications are open for 2013 Melbourne Cabaret Festival. Applications close 28th February 2013. The Festival will kick off on Wednesday 26 June 2013 with an Opening Gala at Australia’s largest capacity theatre, the Palais Theatre; cabaret will then burst upon stages all across Melbourne until the Closing Gala on Sunday 7 July.

 

Dance Massive is announced for 12th to 24th March 2013.
Dance Massive exists as the concurrent programming and scheduling of contemporary dance works and events across three Melbourne venues – Dancehouse, Malthouse Theatre and Arts House, along with Ausdance VIC.

 

Performing Arts Touring Expo announced for 3rd to 5th April 2013.
Arts Victoria, the Blue Heeler Network, Kultour, Regional Arts Australia (RAA), Regional Arts Victoria (RAV) and the Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres (VAPAC) are delighted to announce the 2013 Performing Arts Touring Expo. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand.

Interested in Touring? We encourage TNV members to sign up to Cyberpaddock. [Free] Cyberpaddock is a networking site for the performing arts industry with particular emphasis on regional venues and Producers of tour-ready shows. Cyberpaddock is a tool for streamlining the selection of productions that appear at various performing arts market places and managing the selection of national and state-wide performing arts touring. You don’t need to have a show ready to have a profile.

The 2012 Victorian Theatre Meeting report is now available (link removed) Mark the 19th September 2013 in your new diary for the 5th annual Victorian Theatre Meeting. You won’t want to miss it.

 

INTERNATIONAL STUFF

Join IFACCA now for 2013 and maximise the benefits of the next World Summit. Organisations that join IFACCA in 2013 as national or affiliate members will be able to take advantage of discounts on World Summit registration and special member events (such as the General Assembly, Members’ lunch, regional meetings and other VIP activities) scheduled to coincide with the World Summit on 13-16 January 2014 in Santiago de Chile.

Creative Partnerships with Asia – Expressions of Interest close 31st January 2013.
EOI’s are now open for the Australia Council for the Arts’ new Creative Partnerships with Asia initiative. This initiative will support creative exchanges and collaborations between Australian and Asian artists in all artforms and aims to support the creation of new work, presentation of this work to audiences in Australia and Asia, and the development of long term networks.

  • Kathy Keele,[CEO] will be leaving the Australia Council for the Arts at the end of this year.
  • Libby Christie, [Executive Director of Arts Funding] will act as CEO of the Australia Council from January 2013
  • Heather Dransfield, steps up from Touring Manager to General Manager for Arts On Tour.
  • Terese Casuleaves La Boite to take on the role of Director, Arts Organisations for Australia Council for the Arts.
  • Redland City Council welcomes Zane Trowas new manager of their Creative Arts Centre.
  • Cadi McCarthy, Artistic Director of Buzz Dance Theatre will be leaving the company in the coming months.
  • Australia Council of the Arts welcomes Elizabeth Walshas the Chair of the Dance Board and Rosemary Hinde from Victoria as a new member of the Board.
